Why do some people pick rubbish answers as best answers and flag a perfectly reasonable answer?

Please look at the question below and my deleted answer. Please take a note of the best answer. The best answer does not even answer the question whatsoever.

Deleted Answer: No Jack you are wrong sorry. When you make a survey you "sample" a representation of the population, you don't survey the whole population. -------------------------- If you want to learn more about sampling methods please try the following link http://www.statpac.com/surveys/sampling.... --------------------------- Jack Straw poll is a completely different thing all together and obviously you don’t grasp the statistical basis of it in depth. In this survey, all they needed is some statistician to perform power analysis and sample size estimation. He can then say for example you need only 100 random samples of MPs to answer these questions quickly, easily, and accurately. ------------------------------- What is the point of this survey? They want to make something positive out of their tragedy, so it can help others. Perfectly reasonable thing to do.

Why do some people pick rubbish answers as best answers and flag a perfectly reasonable answer?
Because it was probably answered by one of their friends, so they had to pick it....and thats too bad, because there are so many great answers out there, and people take alot of time to make sure they give great answers, then the asker picks a stupid answer or one that doesnt make sense at all....... It makes you wonder why they ask the question in the first place..........but dont give up....... maybe the askers will finally start reading their answers and actually pick the best one....... not their friends answers....
Reply:It's called freedom of choice.

Anyone, like me, who was at Uni in the 60s should be aware of the manipulations which are made when collecting 'statistics'. You can restrict your sampling to 5-bed roomed houses in villages surrounding Ascot or you can choose to make your sampling in poorer areas of the former cotton towns in East Lancs.

As we used to say: 'If all the students in Cambridge were laid side by side, I wouldn't be at all surprised.'
Reply:I agree with Robert C, this particular guy regularly answers his own questions. He is a McCann ranter who plagued this forum.
Reply:LOL. I see what you mean. HOWEVER (and there is always one) you have been voted again and again as a brilliant "contributor". So, on average at least, the res tof us aren't that bad.
Reply:You are 100% correct. I think it has to do with beauty in the eye of the beholder, 'cause is sure has nothing to do with picking the Best or most informed or accurate answer.

example:

I just moved into a new apt blah, blah, blah, what kind of plants should I decorate with?

I also have a kitty.

Best Answer chosen ....Yucca plant

ASPCA Toxic Plants for Pets

So your question is legitimate and to be perfectly honest about it, Yahoo! Answers does not enforce anything ! Especially when it comes to plagiarism. So according to Their Rules your answer should have won..

To Steven....Yes the asker can pick what ever!

the answer however is not to be a cut and paste as though it were your own.
Reply:It seems to be because you answer was in a very twatty smartarse tone. Also you did not seem to understand the question properly or see the point he was trying to make.
Reply:some are dumb and learn everything from murdock news outlets. those never finish reading you question and giving it more than one-second's thought before they start pounding out their truth. others are in a bad mood and hate your avatar and flag you. kinda whacky isn't it?
Reply:Most people receive information from newspapers. As a very famous man said, If you do Not read newspapers you are uninformed. If you Do read newspapers you are misinformed. So why are you surprised that the answer that you were expecting was not forthcoming.

"even answer the question whatsoever" perhaps you could keep to correct English.
Reply:Because they are not looking for answers they are looking for people to agree with them. Some don't even bother to disguise that fact, making a statement and putting a question mark at the end.
Reply:i believe the answer is that certain individuals are seriously stupid and have no logic in their brains whatsoever.
Reply:There should be no feelings of injustice, every one has the right

to choose the answer that suits them best . If you will but understand that all minds are not equally developed. What to you is right, and I agree, however may not be right for the other person.
Reply:The Internet is serious business, guys! Someone didn't pick my clearly superior answer and instead flagged it and chose an answer even a two-year-old would know to be incorrect! Let us tie the questioner up at the stake and burn him to warn the others who dare to follow in his footsteps.
Reply:not sure ...seems to have bit of everything in there I'm sorry but confused .... if it was the asker then its their agenda but if the community democracy rules sorry .done surveys and always amazed at what the powers that be say even when the survey is flawed and have told them (the ones in control) there is a flaw in your survey do they listen yes ignore yes listen to the popular vote yes don't want to rock boat yes ...so there you go being reasonable NO
Reply:You made the terrible mistake of disagreeing with the questioner's opinion, and giving him a sensible, structured, well thought-out answer to the question, instead of the answer he actually wanted to hear. That'll teach you!
Reply:Yahoo Answers is not to be considered a definitive source of information!

The asker has the right to pick any answer of they choice. If they choose not to pick an answer it's up to the voters.

Most of the time answers are helpful but not always.

e.g. Yahoo Answers can be a guide but should not be used as substitute when medical advice is needed. If one thinks they might be pregnant don't wait for an answer here, take a test or see a doctor.
Reply:Because people proberley get bored of reading them and they read the first couple than think thats good there cant be any moer better so people wjho are good dont even get a chanec
Reply:maybe they dont like you.
Reply:may be because the questioner's knowledge ABOUT THE SUBJECT is very poor or THAT he is crazy.
Reply:You are so right. I've asked questions before and got ridiculous answers and it's obvious the person hasn't read my question properly. I've also answered questions and got rude comments about my views which also indicated they hadn't bothered to read my views properly. I think some people just answer questions to get points, though heaven knows why, it just makes them look stupid.
Reply:I certainly do not see any reason to delete your answer.

I suspect that the Yahoo staff receives far too many flagged responses to read them all. I suspect that if a response is flagged the response is automatically deleted I doubt that anyone at Yahoo Answers even reads it.

With respect to why the asker chose that particular answer only the asker knows.

.
Reply:It's one of the vagaries of this Y/A - no consistency, and violations for no reason.
Reply:I didn't read the links you posted because i couldn't be bothered. Maybe the answer wasn't rubbish to the person who asked the question, hence being picked as the best answer.
Reply:i think they are out of their mind
Reply:Only God knows how these people's minds work!

I sometimes think that they only want answers that agree with themselves. Common sense goes out the window!
Reply:People choose answers that they want to hear. In my view, people already know the sensible answers.
Reply:They don't read through the answers properly. Or, they just vote for the nearest %26amp; quickest answer to get their points.
Reply:Es la vida loca!
Reply:some people can not take the truth or facts

if it does not suit them

they want you to give them the answer they want

so sorry you will have to put up with these people

if you want to try and help people with answers
Reply:These two know each other, they are both McCann ranters.

They may even be the same person using 2 accounts!
Reply:That is your opinion but it's up to who's choosing the best answer not you uh?
Reply:some of them answer their own questions, it is the only way they ever get a best answer.
