I already know about Wal-marts site and have already gotten samples from there. I am looking for other free offers. Thanks

my favorite is http://www.freakyfreddies.com

. you have to sort of sort through the junk and scam offers because some of those are in there too but after awhile you should get the hang of how to target the real deal free samples. a hint is to start with the following categories first:

hair, health and beauty, miscellaneous, automobile

also, if something says free* with a star like that, avoid it. it pretty much means you have to fill out those stupid long surveys or sign up with credit card for offers. good luck

What type of animal would you never want to have?

I am doing a survey for class and i need a random sample what type of animal you never want to own~type, breed, color, temperment.

Thanks

What type of animal would you never want to have?
that's a hard question i like a lot of animals so i would say a tape worm
Reply:i would not like to own any cattle, i wouldnt want this because i am not interested in the type. They are not friendly and dont show any emotions.
Reply:A pig
Reply:a boa or a Python and any in the spider family they could hurt me
Reply:A bug!!! they are ugly and gross
Reply:I really like all animals but i could never have a violent dog because i wouldn't want it ot be a safety issue for anyone. as for color and breed i dont hate or dis like any of them.
Reply:An exotic....ie....lion, bear, zebra, wolf...etc. Because they really are not suited to be pets. Beautiful, yes, absolutely. But not appropriate for pets.

Now, on a typical pet animal scale, I wouldn't want a long coated cat, they require too much grooming and they shed a LOT.... I'm not crazy about Chow Chows....just never have cared much for their personalities, not to mention all that coat...however, the smooth coated ones I have been around seem to have a bit better temperment than the long coats for some reason. Wouldn't have a snake, not because of me, but because I like my happy home, and hubby will NOT tolerate a snake....
Reply:Any kind of reptile !

I also wouldent want a pit bull terrier.
Reply:A scorpion.
Reply:I LOVE all animals, but I wouldn't want to have a aggressive bull!

What kind of sample is this?

umm... a department store plan to conduct a survey

to conduct this survey employees of the store asked people who came into them to go online

(the survey is surveying how much money they spend to buy shoes over a course of a year).

it is biased

Is there a place where I can get free teeth whitening samples?

Is there a place where I can get free teeth whitening samples without having to fill out surveys? Don't say Walmart because it doesn't work anymore. If you come up with a good site for free samples of teeth whitening without filling out surveys, then you will be my best answer! Also if you have any web sites I could go to for free samples of good whitening toothpaste or other whitening products! Thanks!

Hello, Ahhh, I in no way want to sound flippant or uninterested in your quest for information but, given that you successfully located this site and posted a question....Those of us who attempt to provide professional answers do so using the knowledge we have attained over years of experience...You are obviously technically talented and computer wise...so I would suggest that you can use that talent to type something like "Dental Material Manufacturers" in your web site search engine and find a number of companies to send and Email to with your request for "FREE" samples of their tooth whitening products....While your doing that we will get back to responding to others on this site that don't need us to be their web browser, but want answers to their questions "now"...Good luck and I wish you well.

Valid Sample Size?

How many random golfers would I have to survey to find out how long a round of golf takes? (Lets pretend the sample really is random). If I survey 20 random golfers at my local country club and found that the average time to play a round was 4 hours, is this significant. Lets say that 1000 rounds every month are played there. What is my population, 1000? Does the variance in their response limit the sample size needed to get me say 95% confident? For example if the first 18 golfers all said it took them 3 hours and 45 minutes to play, wouldn't that decrease the sample size I need based on the consistency of the answers?

Valid Sample Size?
Assuming you are only using 1 golf course (since every course is different and thus would take a different time to play)...

I would think that a sample of a random survey of 60 different tee times for each day surveyed you wanted to know, surveyed over 3 weeks would be 90+% accurate barring inclement weather... (i.e. If you wanted to know for Mondays then 20 tee times, randomized from different times of the day, for each of 3 weeks)...

You would likely only need to do 5 days of the seven for the full 3 weeks should you want to know for each day since your data could be inferred to the other 2 days with good accuracy...

The big things that I would think that would skew the averages would be:

1) tourneys since some are 'party' times (with heavy drinkers and once a year golfers) and other tourneys are serious events (which tend to reduce alcohol consumption and play somewhat faster),

2) and long weekends since they tend to bring heavy drinkers and slow play down

Lastly, don't forget that what happens this year may or may not hold true for next year... social habits change, faster greens when reseeded, adding a washroom mid-course etc... all affect play time...
Reply:You aren't putting all the needed factors into play here. Did you survey all the people on the same day, same week, same season? Does weather have an effect? Does it take longer in the summer because of the heat? If it's raining, do they play? Does it affect the time to do a round. Which hole are you surveying? All they all equal? (Obviously not since each would have a different par). You might even have to go through several years of sample if, for example, you have mild and hard winters.

Surveyed 45 hard drives w/ a max error est of 28,how many include in new sample to reduce max error est to 7?

we know that z * sx is going to be a relative constant here. the z score should not change if we are looking for the same size confidence interval, nor should the standard deviation change that much.

we know (z*sx) / sqrt(45) = 28

so z*sx = 28sqrt(45)

n for the larger sample is:

n = (28 * sqrt(45) / 7)^2

n = 720 samples

There are many sites which pay commissions for signing up people to take surveys with them. I list some of them on the following (check the referral rewards collumn in each site review--it says whether they offer any kind of reward for referring others):

http://www.windhavenweb.com/surveys

All of those are ones that I have personally made money or recieved some sort of reward for taking surveys through. www.surveysavvy.com is another good one for refering people to. If anyone you refer signs up with them, you get $1 EVERY time they take a survey, not just when they sign up. I would ad them to my own site--only I've never actually qualified to take a survey with them (been offered a few and they do pay nicely--but I wasn't in the demographic they were looking for).

Survey in regards of speeding tickets with teenage boys.... How do you solve?

f. 0.556 %26lt; p %26lt; 0.844

g. none of these

Survey in regards of speeding tickets with teenage boys.... How do you solve?
Since we do not know the Standard Deviation, we have to use the following formula:

n= 80, p=.70

s = sqrt ( [p * (1-p) ] / n)

(sqrt is the square root)

so we get

p +/- Z * s

or for this data:

s = sqrt ((.70 * .30)/80) = 0.051

z= 2.575 for 99% see Z table for .4950

.7 +/- 2.575*.051

.7 +/- .132

.568 %26lt; p %26lt; .832

Random sample question?

In surveying a simple random sample of 1000 employed adults, we found that 480 individuals felt they were underpaid by at least $3900. Based on these results, we have 95% confidence that the proportion of the population of employed adults who share this sentiment is between 0.45 and 0.51." For this summary statement, identify the:Point estimate of the population proportion. Round to two decimal places.

Random sample question?
The point estimate is going to be the midpoint of the confidence interval. The width of the CI is .06, so the point estimate is .45 + .03. You could also look at the sample data - 480 out of 1000 adults give you "p-hat" = 480/100 = .48

6.47- A company wishes to be 95% confident that the sample mean is correct to witin +/- $5 ....?

A survey is planned to determine the mean annual family medical expenses of employees of a large company. The management of the company wishes to be 95% confident that the sample mean is correct to witin +/- $50 of the true population mean annual family medical expenses. A pilot study indicates that the standard deviation can be estimated as $400.

a)How large a sample size is necessary?

b)If managment wants to be correct to within +/- $25, what sample size is necessary?

thanks so much!

6.47- A company wishes to be 95% confident that the sample mean is correct to witin +/- $5 ....?
I'm assuming the value of $400 is supposed to be assumed to be the population standard deviation, σ.

Recall the formula for determining the endpoints of a confidence interval for a mean, given the population standard deviation:

μ +- z* (σ / √n)

If we want to be correct within +- $50, then, it stands to reason that we want z* (σ / √n) to be equal to $50 (more specifically, less than or equal to $50).

z* = 1.96 for a 95% CI and σ = $400 as given.

Therefore,

1.96 ($400 / √n) %26lt;= $50

n %26gt;= 245.9

Note the inequality: sample size must be "greater than or equal" to 245.9, so we would round up to 246.

Then, for +- $25 accuracy, we notice that the value of z* doesn't change (still 95% CI), only the error does, so the inequality we need to solve is:

1.96 ($400 / √n) %26lt;= $25

n %26gt;= 983.4

I know it's tempting to use n = 983, but that would be incorrect. The inequality specifically says that n should be "greater than or equal to" 983.4 and so we must use n = 984. This concept makes sense conceptually as well; if n=983.4 creates a interval with error +- $25, we would expect that lowering the sample size increases the error (why else would we spend the time and effort to increase the sample size?).

Do internet surveys always represent everyone correctly, first to help gets best answer?

I am doing some research about whether or not internet surveys represent the population evenly, or if they are prone to sampling errors. Post a link to an internet survey, already with results, that you feel has a sampling error. For example, one where men are misrepresented because the web site is catered toward women.

Thank you so much.

Do internet surveys always represent everyone correctly, first to help gets best answer?
Like everyone else said, there'll always be that margin of error in any survey but in general I don't think they're very representative of the population. Case in point:

Word problem for statistics - sample size?

I have a question that I'm not sure how to go about doing it (not sure what formulas to use, etc). We're given the answer, but I would like to know how to arrive at the answer.

A survey asks a random sample of 1500 adults if they support an increase in tax from 5% to 6%, with the additional revenue going to education. Let p denote the proportion in the sample that say they support the increae. Suppose that 40% of all adults support the increase. How large a sample would be needed to guarantee that the standard deviation of p is no more than 0.01?

Answer: 2400

Word problem for statistics - sample size?
Standard Error of the Sample Proportion Equation

this equation is hard to write out, but when i put the numbers in it may make more sense. take the square root of everything after it

stand deviation = sqroot (proportion x 1- proportion)/ (sample)

0.01 = sqroot (0.4 x (1-.4)) / sample

0.01 = sqroot (.4 x .6) / sample

0.01= sqroot (.24) / sample

square both sides, so we can cancel out square root on the right

.0001 = .24/ sample

now multiply each side by sample

.0001 x sample = .24

divide by .0001 to find sample

sample = 2400

Why does everyone think a majority of the US wants to pull out of Iraq?

Polls say that most Americans either want to keep them there for another year or stay until the job is done.

37% says a year.

39% said the troops should stay in Iraq as long as needed.

21% says pull out now.

The CNN poll was conducted Friday through Sunday by Opinion Research Corp. Pollsters interviewed 1,027 adults for the survey, which had a sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Wow... Notice the amount of people CNN had surveyed for this poll.

Why does everyone think a majority of the US wants to pull out of Iraq?
I have come to believe that the majority of Americans are brain dead idiots who do not know what the hell they want. I do not listen to polls because they are a waste of time.
Reply:The media portrays this story that is why. Congress is obviously listening to the people, perhaps that is why they are doing all the non binding resolutions. To keep their constituents happy.
Reply:inaccurate voting system....
Reply:Because that's what the main stream media tells them to think.
Reply:Dude...i have been...TWICE... i dont know if you know... It blows.

That is all....i dont know if you got that memo.
Reply:37 says what about a year? You need to be more clear. But, I'm assuming they say give it another year and then get out. So, if you add 37 and 21, you get 58, and that is a majority. A majority of people surveyed want the US to pull out of Iraq, eventually.
Reply:Take a math class and learn how to add 37 and 21. Then ask your question again.
Reply:Because that is what the liberal media keeps telling everyone. If the three major networks is all the news that a person listens to, then they have a very distorted view of what is happening in the world.
Reply:because poll after poll after poll shows that the majority in the USA is firmly against the policies of this administration - since, oh, well over a year ago

just look at the mandate set in November of 2006 - the elections - NEVER before has there been such a sweep of Dems taking over all across the country - locally and nationally

bush's support numbers are abysmally low for a second-termer -

these are facts - with which I'm well acquainted

my question is - why does the news media not ask any tough questions like for instance - regarding the tenuous relationship the country of Dubai (home now to Cheney's Halliburton) had and remains to have with the 9-11 hyjackers and the groups which funded them?
Reply:Polls can be manipulated by the groups which are asked to participate. If a Poll was conducted at a Budweiser brewing plant and the question was "which brand of beer has better taste", I'm sure Budweiser brand would come out ahead.

That's a majority. Even with the Margin of error (55%- 61%) it's still a majority.

There's no other way to make the determination except by polling. We're not going to have a national referendum about it.

Free contacts (the colored ones) were online can i get a free sample?
No matter where you get a free certificate, you HAVE to have an eye exam and get a Rx first.
Reply:i dont know but i know for a fact that you can get one free pair a walmart...sorta like a trial pair.
Reply:I am not aware of any no-obligation offers for free contact lenses. Freshlook (who makes fabulous colored lenses) does offer a certificate on their website that you can take to a local optometrist; you simply print out the certificate, take it to the office, and you are allowed an IN-OFFICE TRIAL. Which means, try them on in the office, leave them in the office. Usually you'd have to make an appointment and get an exam. The link for the offer is listed below.

I hope this helps!
Reply:Do you have a perscription for them? If not, you may as well go get them through an Optometrist. They almost ALWAYS give your first pair out for free, without having to purchase any contact boxes...and yes you have to have a perscription for colored-contacts. This is because contacts come in different sizes, and a Dr. needs to determine if contacts are safe for you.
Reply:colored contacts are expensive! you have to take the survey %26amp;+ it costs you money to do the survey. sorry they are expensive they wouldn't give em for free!

Just Curious Survey: Do you believe it is possible to return the dead to their former state ...?

FYI This is just a simple survey. No malicious intent intended intentionally.

This is just to get a sample of views from random users on the general idea of voodoo, etc.

Just Curious Survey: Do you believe it is possible to return the dead to their former state ...?
Only in their next life.~~Peace~~
Reply:I don't believe in this but I knew this guy who was vacationing in Israel with his wife and she died. The authorities told him he could either bury her there or pay to have her body shipped home. He said he wanted her shipped home because he heard that they had once buried someone there and they came back to life 3 days later and he just couldn't take that chance...

Convenience sample and other statistics help?

checking my answers: T or F

-a convenience sample is a non-probability sample (T)

On August 27, 1995 an article in the Los Angeles Times reported that in its survey of 3297 California adults, 2780, or 83.4% had health insurance coverage. These results have a margin of error of plus or minus 1.4%. What is the population of interest?

-3,297 adults living in California(T)

-the response variable is The percentage of California adults with health coverage(T)

-this is an observational study(T)

Convenience sample and other statistics help?
you are correct in all but one area.

The population of interest in the second question is the set of all Californian Adults. the 3297 is the sample from the population.

Are there any truely free sample sites?where you dont have to make out 50 surveys?

top 50 freesites has a mixture of sites some are useless some are good. Freaky freddies freebies, freebie cat, walmart. The key is to not waste your time on anything that asks for your email first and any of those 1 and 2 step sites, also look for an astrik by the word free, this indicates you have to take some offers or something. Free samples are out there, it is just a matter of weeding through the garbage. I get stuff almost every day.

Margin of Error, The rule for sample proportions?

OK so here is the question: 335 visitors were questioned as part of a survey done by the McDowell Group, 78 percent were "very satisfied" with their time in the town they were visiting.

This is what they wanted to know:

The reported margin of error was 5.5 percent. Does this agree with your calculation?

Construct a 95% confidence interval for the true proportion of visitors who are "very satisfied" with their visit. ( I came up with 3.1% - 6.1% am I wrong?)

Does it appear that the 'rule for sample proportions was used' to calculate the margin of error or the formula using the sample proportions?

I came up with a margin of error 2.68% am I wrong?

I don't understand how they came up with 5.5%!

Assuming the sample is representative of all multiday visitors to, can you reasonably conclude that more than 50% of all such visitors are "very satisfied" with their visit? Can you reasonably conclude that more than 75% of all such visitors are "very satisfied"?

Margin of Error, The rule for sample proportions?
5.5% sounds reasonable for an n=335 sample size.

The 95% confidence interval is probably 72.5%-83.5% of visitors very satisfied with their time. (Margin of error is the radius of a confidence interval for a particular statistic from a survey.)

It'd be impossible to get a margin of error of 2.86% on a sample size that small.

So, you could reasonably conclude that more than 50% of all the visitors were "very satisfied", but you couldn't say for sure that more than 75% of the visitors were "very satisfied".

What sites offer free samples without doing surveys?

This site lists a lot of free sample offers a few times per week. If you have to fill out a survey, it is usually just 3 or 4 questions, but usually it is just your name, address and e-mail that you need to provide: http://thriftyjinxy.blogspot.com/

Why do some people pick rubbish answers as best answers and flag a perfectly reasonable answer?

Please look at the question below and my deleted answer. Please take a note of the best answer. The best answer does not even answer the question whatsoever.

http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/ind...

Deleted Answer: No Jack you are wrong sorry. When you make a survey you "sample" a representation of the population, you don't survey the whole population. -------------------------- If you want to learn more about sampling methods please try the following link http://www.statpac.com/surveys/sampling.... --------------------------- Jack Straw poll is a completely different thing all together and obviously you don’t grasp the statistical basis of it in depth. In this survey, all they needed is some statistician to perform power analysis and sample size estimation. He can then say for example you need only 100 random samples of MPs to answer these questions quickly, easily, and accurately. ------------------------------- What is the point of this survey? They want to make something positive out of their tragedy, so it can help others. Perfectly reasonable thing to do.

Why do some people pick rubbish answers as best answers and flag a perfectly reasonable answer?
Because it was probably answered by one of their friends, so they had to pick it....and thats too bad, because there are so many great answers out there, and people take alot of time to make sure they give great answers, then the asker picks a stupid answer or one that doesnt make sense at all....... It makes you wonder why they ask the question in the first place..........but dont give up....... maybe the askers will finally start reading their answers and actually pick the best one....... not their friends answers....
Reply:It's called freedom of choice.

Anyone, like me, who was at Uni in the 60s should be aware of the manipulations which are made when collecting 'statistics'. You can restrict your sampling to 5-bed roomed houses in villages surrounding Ascot or you can choose to make your sampling in poorer areas of the former cotton towns in East Lancs.

As we used to say: 'If all the students in Cambridge were laid side by side, I wouldn't be at all surprised.'
Reply:I agree with Robert C, this particular guy regularly answers his own questions. He is a McCann ranter who plagued this forum.
Reply:LOL. I see what you mean. HOWEVER (and there is always one) you have been voted again and again as a brilliant "contributor". So, on average at least, the res tof us aren't that bad.
Reply:You are 100% correct. I think it has to do with beauty in the eye of the beholder, 'cause is sure has nothing to do with picking the Best or most informed or accurate answer.

example:

I just moved into a new apt blah, blah, blah, what kind of plants should I decorate with?

To Steven....Yes the asker can pick what ever!

the answer however is not to be a cut and paste as though it were your own.
Reply:It seems to be because you answer was in a very twatty smartarse tone. Also you did not seem to understand the question properly or see the point he was trying to make.
Reply:some are dumb and learn everything from murdock news outlets. those never finish reading you question and giving it more than one-second's thought before they start pounding out their truth. others are in a bad mood and hate your avatar and flag you. kinda whacky isn't it?
Reply:Most people receive information from newspapers. As a very famous man said, If you do Not read newspapers you are uninformed. If you Do read newspapers you are misinformed. So why are you surprised that the answer that you were expecting was not forthcoming.

"even answer the question whatsoever" perhaps you could keep to correct English.
Reply:Because they are not looking for answers they are looking for people to agree with them. Some don't even bother to disguise that fact, making a statement and putting a question mark at the end.
Reply:i believe the answer is that certain individuals are seriously stupid and have no logic in their brains whatsoever.
Reply:There should be no feelings of injustice, every one has the right

to choose the answer that suits them best . If you will but understand that all minds are not equally developed. What to you is right, and I agree, however may not be right for the other person.
Reply:The Internet is serious business, guys! Someone didn't pick my clearly superior answer and instead flagged it and chose an answer even a two-year-old would know to be incorrect! Let us tie the questioner up at the stake and burn him to warn the others who dare to follow in his footsteps.
Reply:not sure ...seems to have bit of everything in there I'm sorry but confused .... if it was the asker then its their agenda but if the community democracy rules sorry .done surveys and always amazed at what the powers that be say even when the survey is flawed and have told them (the ones in control) there is a flaw in your survey do they listen yes ignore yes listen to the popular vote yes don't want to rock boat yes ...so there you go being reasonable NO
Reply:You made the terrible mistake of disagreeing with the questioner's opinion, and giving him a sensible, structured, well thought-out answer to the question, instead of the answer he actually wanted to hear. That'll teach you!
Reply:Yahoo Answers is not to be considered a definitive source of information!

The asker has the right to pick any answer of they choice. If they choose not to pick an answer it's up to the voters.

Most of the time answers are helpful but not always.

e.g. Yahoo Answers can be a guide but should not be used as substitute when medical advice is needed. If one thinks they might be pregnant don't wait for an answer here, take a test or see a doctor.
Reply:Because people proberley get bored of reading them and they read the first couple than think thats good there cant be any moer better so people wjho are good dont even get a chanec
Reply:maybe they dont like you.
Reply:may be because the questioner's knowledge ABOUT THE SUBJECT is very poor or THAT he is crazy.
Reply:You are so right. I've asked questions before and got ridiculous answers and it's obvious the person hasn't read my question properly. I've also answered questions and got rude comments about my views which also indicated they hadn't bothered to read my views properly. I think some people just answer questions to get points, though heaven knows why, it just makes them look stupid.
Reply:I certainly do not see any reason to delete your answer.

I suspect that the Yahoo staff receives far too many flagged responses to read them all. I suspect that if a response is flagged the response is automatically deleted I doubt that anyone at Yahoo Answers even reads it.

With respect to why the asker chose that particular answer only the asker knows.

.
Reply:It's one of the vagaries of this Y/A - no consistency, and violations for no reason.
Reply:I didn't read the links you posted because i couldn't be bothered. Maybe the answer wasn't rubbish to the person who asked the question, hence being picked as the best answer.
Reply:i think they are out of their mind

I sometimes think that they only want answers that agree with themselves. Common sense goes out the window!
Reply:People choose answers that they want to hear. In my view, people already know the sensible answers.
Reply:They don't read through the answers properly. Or, they just vote for the nearest %26amp; quickest answer to get their points.

What was the sample population used in Kinsey's ''Sexual Behavior in the Human Male'' (1948)?

I am aware that Gebhard and Johnson "cleaned up" the data in 1979 by removing responses from convicts and male prostitutes. According to their work, this did not significantly affect the statistics of Kinsey's work.

Even with the "cleaned" data, the report shows 10% of white men were "more or less exclusively homosexual for at least three years between the ages of 16 and 55". This statistic is largely responsible for the "10% of everyone is gay" rule we see bantered around all the time.

But who were actually interviewed? I have heard that the men consulted for this survey were all college students and staff, a group largely unrepresentative of any larger population.

Is this true? When I was in college, I purposely gave the most outrageous answers I could to any survey offered to me, just for amusement. I would hate to think the results of such a high-profile project might have been swayed by drunks looking to make a joke.

What was the sample population used in Kinsey's ''Sexual Behavior in the Human Male'' (1948)?
Kinsey's data came from 5,300 in-depth, face-to-face interviews. Kinsey's study found that 10% of males were more or less exclusively homosexual.

Later studies, such as the 1993 study The Janus Report on Sexual Behavior which used 2,765 questionnaires, have shown results similar to Kinsey's. The Janus study found that 9% of men were homosexual.
Reply:How can you not trust the results of such a study performed by an entomologist?

Sample portion?

Sample portion?
Do you mean sample proportion?

That's the proportion of the people surveyed who said "yes."
Reply:The sample is the number of people asked the question in the first place. They are used as a representative "sample" of the population at large.

So, the sample is the 1,500 shoppers.

Does anyone know any legit websites where I can make money online doing surveys?
I don't want to sound nasty but those survey sites could care less about your opinions. They are buying your email address and other personal information for marketing purposes. If you don't believe me, just wait until you see all of the spam mail you get by postal service and email. The people who make the money are those who refer others to sign up and spread the word. Businesses are not in the habit of giving away money for obvious reasons so they are profiting from people who sign up for things and never cancel. It could be profitable to make money this route but you'll aggreivate alot of your family, friends, and coworkers in the process. Surely you can use your time and energy in better ways ... like your own business. If you are really involved with the survey arena, get a good calendar and make sure to keep track of all "offers" and cancellation dates. There are alot of people who end up wasting more money than they "earn."

I can't remember any more right now, but never sign up for any site that requires a paid membership to get access to a database or anything similar. The legit ones don't charge you a single cent. I receommend you try to find the site's for the actual market research agencies through google instead of "get paid to take surveys" and see if they have a paid survey service. That way you are going right to the company. Global test market is like that.

I'm not familiar with a sample PI. It's not a pass/fail test. It's more of a do you prefer this over that evaluative. There is no way to effectively "practice" before you take it.

The survey design is flawed.?

The survey design is flawed. Is the flaw do to the sampling method or the survey itself?

suppose you are conducting a survey regarding students study habits. form a list of full time registered students you obtain a simple random sample of 90 students. one survey question "how many hours do you study"

The survey design is flawed.?
The method of sampling seems to be OK.

The question is ambiguous. It does not give a time period. Day? Week? Semester? I'd think "Day" is implied, but it should be stated. Also, the average time should should be asked because every day is different.

Margin of error of a sample?

I am so lost! please hellp!!!

A National Retail Foundation survey found households intended to spend an average of $649 during the December holiday season (The Wall Street Journal, December 2, 2002). Assume that the survey included 600 households and that the sample standard deviation was $175.

a. With 95% confidence, what is the margin of error?

b. What is the 95% confidence interval estimate of the population mean?

c. The prior year, the population mean expenditure per household was $632. Discuss the change in holiday season expenditures over the one-year period.

Margin of error of a sample?
n=600

X=649

s175

a. ME is 14.1744

b.637.8256, 663.1744

c. i dont understand what this question is asking

but to find the ME you take a confidence leve of 95% with a degree of freedom of 599 which is aprox. 1.984 then you mulitiply that (1.984) by std dev/sq root of the sample size

so..

1.984 X 175/24.495

for b. you take the mean and ± the ME so 649±14.174

i hope that helps

The University of Michigan has this page with huge amount of links to data, classified by topic, industry, etc. and includes links to government data as well.

To find several other resources like this, you might be interested in this kind of search at del.icio.us:

This searches for "data" and either "statistics" or "statistical", dropping all matches that included "visualization" (tools)

What is an example of a conclusion that a person might reach about this survey described in a representative s

In a representative sample. If a music producer conducts a survey around video games and wants to know what college students think of poular music. He conducts the survey in the area of the student union, what is the example of a conclusion the producer might reach based on this survey that might not be true about college students in general

What is an example of a conclusion that a person might reach about this survey described in a representative s
The survey is probably not going to be a simple random sample. The sampling method you are describing would probably best be desribed as a convenience sample. Students who do not frequent the student union would not be represented. If we only ask students who GO to the student union about their thoughts on video games, we won't adequately represent ALL students, including "bookworms" (who are studying in the library) or "commuters" (who go home at night) or "off-campus students". Perhaps we are conducting the survey on a day when there is an impromptu reggae band playing in the student union. We might conclude, then, that ALL college students like reggae music when in fact, the students included in the survey were coming to the student union specifically to SEE the reggae band.

What are the best sites for free stuff/samples?

Preferably ones that are not scam sites. That require a long survey to get a sample.

What are the best sites for free stuff/samples?
I check www.mysavings.com and www.heyitsfree.com just about every day. They troll the web for you, checking for free stuff and gathering it all in one place. Then, all you have to do is click on the links and it takes you straight to the site for the freebie. Uusallly, there is a very short form to fill in, not a survey. The freebies come in anywhere from a few days to 8 weeks. I've gotten skin care samples, razors, toiletries, books, an umbrella, a scarf and more! Have fun!!!

Reply:I agree with bobashep - I've checked out most, if not all, of the free sample sites out there. They update their samples daily and their forums are very active.

u cant
Reply:You can always go to the makeup counters in department stores and ask. They are more than happy to give away freebies because they know if you like a product, you will probably buy it.

Ask what they recommend for your skin and coloring, and when they ask if you want to buy it, say you're not sure, ask if they have samples so you can try it first. I worked at the Lancome counter at Macys...these people work on commission and would be more than happy to let you try it, if you come back its money in their pocket! It certainly doesnt hurt to ask. They will also do your makeup free to try out colors, you just have to book an appointment.
Reply:Chat up salesladies in stores, act sophisticated, maybe buy a little something, then ask for some samples. Works like a charm.

Statistics...survey?

I'm taking a math statistics class and i have to conduct a survey. I want to know if people lost weight and how did they lose it? How large should my population and sample be? What survey method do you think is best for this survey?

Statistics...survey?
u should also conduct the survey on Y/A and as well as ppl ur friends with! A big sample would be a good idea :)
Reply:In theory, the larger your sample the more reliable your results. In practice, however, this is a school project, so you have to keep it reasonable. Anything in between 10 - 50 people (however much you can manage) should be fine, I guess.

As for the methodology: A fully structured questionnaire; these are really the standard method in quantitative research (which is where statistics are most useful, anyway). A further advantage of this is that you can just give it to people and ask them to fill it out by themselves rather than you having to spend extra time interviewing them.

Make sure to include a demographics section (age, sex, maybe some economic status indicators) so that you can compare these to the overall results.

What would be a good Sports Marketing Research topic (study)? Something that can be researched and tested?

I'm having a hard time coming up with a good research topic for a class I'm taking in college. I want to do something in the field of Sports Marketing but I am having a hard time thinking of topics that are testable. By testable I mean that these topics need to be tested through surveys, sampling, etc.

Any Ideas?

What would be a good Sports Marketing Research topic (study)? Something that can be researched and tested?
A few ideas:

is there interest in selling assigned seating to games played in a bleacher style gym - some people like the top row where there is some back support; some like front row; others want something else? you could do a survey of people on their way into the gym, find out how much they'd be willing to pay, see if it is a total bomb - just make sure you tell them it is just for your class or you'll have some folks ticked off forever....

find out if there is interest in starting a Bball or hockey or tennis or ??? exhibition match. Like the pre-season BBall tournaments in Hawaii and Alaska (great Alaska shootout). Obviously this might be bigger than you could pull off, but you could find out if there is interest in the topic. Once again, the preseason tourneys recruit student atheletes. A Division II student has little worries about getting on national TV - unless their university has a big tournament that draws division I players - the television of the events on ESPN is what draws good Div. II players to the school - and it helps athletes get exposure.

Smaller items - new surface of an athletic field, roof for it, or build it period..... sold by a marketing idea - an auction for sports related items, dinner made by coach, selling labor of football team members for a day (money goes to team not to player).

hope it helps
Reply:Two ideas. What is the per share profit derived from having an NFL or MLB stadium branded with a corporate name, such as Busch Stadium in St Louis or SAFECO field in Denver.

Or

What is the profit ratio involved with sponsoring a community sports team; such as Bob's barber shop having their name on a little league team uniform. Or is it used as a charitable write off.
Reply:shoes?
Reply:Maybe consider supplements. All athletes take them you could compare and contrast which supplements work best for certain sports but they of course have to be legal. Or you can do the huge industry of soccer which is the most popular sport, Adidas is the #1 soccer brand, I'm also in a marketing class currently, so maybe you could research nike and see how they could boost their revenue by attracting more of the soccer world. Or why adidas is so successful in the sport and why they are actually number 1.

Performed a paired sample t-test but not sure how to interpret the results.?

I did a 10 question pre %26amp; post survey of the same 10 people. The mean difference is -1.3, Degrees of freedom= 9, standard error of the mean of d= .86, t-statistic for paired data = -1.51, Critical value for alpha .05 would be 2.262.

Now I am not sure how to know whether I accept or reject the null hypothesis. Not even sure what the null hypothesis should be.

My research is whether or not medication improves the school performance of ADHD children. Pre-Survey (before meds) and after survey (while on meds).

I have all these numbers and don't know how to make since of them. Guess I should've paid more attention in that statistics class!

Please help.

Performed a paired sample t-test but not sure how to interpret the results.?
It's very difficult to answer what the null hypothesis should be. If you don't know what you're comparing, then why do the test? I assume you are comparing pre and post test results. Your null hypothesis would most likely be that the test results are the same for both tests. It also sounds like you're preforming a one-sided test on what could be a two-sided test. You would reject any statistic that is above 2.262 or below -2.262 and this would give you an alpha of .05 (.025 on each tail). Basically it looks like you found a two-sided significant value (2.262) but think you're doing a one-sided test. If you're looking to see if there's a significant difference period, then you'd use the two-sided test. If you want to see if the second test scored better, then use the one - sided. (It'd be a lot easier to explain this if I knew exactly how you did the math). If you go above the significant value or below it then you reject the null. Regardless, this won't change your result in this case since your value is -1.51. Basically, any statistic outside of alpha means you reject the null because you have a statistically significant reason to say that the data in the first test is different than the data in the second test. You are making sure there is a significant difference in the data in order to say the medication made a change. Based on your results, you aren't seeing a change since the results. You would not reject the null hypothesis. This means that, based on your results, this drug does not alter test results in patients with ADHD. And yes, you should have paid more attention in statistics class. This stuff really isn't that difficult but you seem so lost. If you plan on doing more of this type of thing I'd suggest taking a stats class again or at least getting a stats textbook and look at it. Also, make sure this is the correct test and that you did it correctly. Based on what you've said, I'm assuming that your resulting t-statistic is correct and that you're using the correct test. It sounds like you have (comparing two results given what it's for) but make sure.
Reply:Based on what you have stated, your null and alternative hypotheses are:

H0: No difference between Pre and Post results.

H1: Post results show better results (medication improves performance)

I presume that the 10 people were the subjects of the experiment and their scores were recorded.

This is a one-tailed test. The critical value at alpha =0.05 is 1.833 (or -2.262 at alpha=0.025). Based on this, the null hypothesis is rejected. That is, medication has improved the subjects' performance.

A school principle wants to survey students to determine whether having internet access at home improves grade

1.) what type of sample would you suggest

2.) describe a technique for choosing the sample

i need help..... thank you

A school principle wants to survey students to determine whether having internet access at home improves grade
Does the principal have a purpose in mind the answer to the question, "Do students having internet access at home get better (or worse) grades than students without internet access at home get?"

Suppose that the principal believes that grades reflect learning, and he wants an indication of whether he can encourage learning by encouraging students' guardians to provide or deny home internet access to their wards.

Why survey students? The obvious reason is that students are in school and therefore accessible to be surveyed. But they still have to asked, and their answers have then to be tabulated correlated with their grades. But internet access is not a yes or no question. How available is the internet? How convenient is the connection and what is its speed? Dial-up, DSL, or cable? Is there competition from siblings and/or parents for computer time? What about chores, homework, sports, etc.? If a student lives with other students, then the student might be asked to provide information about the internet's home accessibility for those others, as well as for himself.

If the principal wants an indication of how he should guide guardians with whom he speaks about their wards, perhaps he should be surveying those guardians for the accessibility data. A "random" sample of the student body may not be what would be most useful. He could also ask those students and any other of his students sharing the same guardian(s) and compare their answers to check reliability.

But suppose the principal decides to use a representative sample of his entire student body to estimate the correlation of home internet access to grade (improvement) for the whole student body. The problem of sample selection is then how to select a sample that will be representative. Most anyone will tell you that the sample should be "random," but random surveying is more difficult than some people suppose it to be.

The principal could be tempted to go to three of his teachers and ask them to survey all of their students about their internet access, or all of their students of some randomly chosen periods... But it's doubtful that such an approach would yield a random sample. The principal's choice of teachers will be biased in some way. Perhaps he'll exclude coaches, because students don't carry pens to P.E. Perhaps he'll exclude art teachers, because students aren't "serious" in art class.

I suggest that the survey be given to every student. Practically, this means that the whole student body be surveyed at the same time. School absences are not random phenomena, so for rigorously valid results, absent students should be surveyed on their return to school.

If the sample size is to be reduced and remain representative, then some surveys should be selected/eliminated "randomly." For example, if IDs were assigned haphazardly, then the students can be sorted by ID and the survey of every seventh student by this sequence could be considered for the statistical study. Those implementing such a procedure ought to ask whether the effort required to eliminate part of the sample is justified by the reduction in effort required to process the remaining surveys. The answer will depend on details of the process which I cannot evaluate from this distance.

Imagine if only every seventh student by ID were selected to be surveyed. How would the principal collect his data? Would these students be called to a special assembly and interrogated there? If so, their grades might fall because of the classroom time they missed. Surveying the entire population is costly but eliminates sampling error.
