Stats help: How can data be collected if dependent samples are to be obtained?

A study is being designed to determine why adults choose to follow a healthy diet. Five hundred men and five hundred women will be surveyed.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but I were designing such a survey it would be a chi-square test for independence (a.k.a. contingency table). The goal would be to see if there were a difference between genders as to the reason for following a healthy diet.

The survey would give several choices

For example: "Why do you follow a healthy diet, check one box only"

∙ Lose weight

∙ More energy

∙ Feel better

∙ I do not follow a healthy diet

etc.

Create a matrix with male and female as 2 columns

List the reasons as the rows in the matrix.

Enter the total responses in the body of the matrix.

Analyze as a chi-square test for independence.

If you want information as to how to analyze, present the data here and I, or someone, will answer.
