I have to write an essay on that.. and I'm not real good with this type of thing so I'd appreciated it if you could help me out a little.

You could go down to a local ice cream shop like baskinrobins or marble slab creamery and just sit and watch recording the flavors that people are asking, giving you a random selection of the population over a one hour period.
Go to a supermarket and watch people or speak with a manager and ask them amount the amounts that they order over a week by flavor.
You could set up an ice cream stand yourself at a kids baseball game and then record how many people stop by and what they wanted.
