Sample Survey or Census #2.?

For each situation, would you suggest sample survey or census to be conducted? Explain

a) A car manufacter wants to find out if Canadian familes with young children a minifan to a SUV as the family car.

b) A district school board wants to know how many students who are in grade 10 math achiv scores over 90%

State if each data is; discrete, contineous,or qualitive

a) favourite musical instrument of Grade 8 students

b) number of students on each school bus

c)temperature of boiling water as it cools.

Sample Survey or Census #2.?
Part 1:

a) Survey - you can't possibly interview the entire population of Canada to get this data, and the population is large enough to take a survey and have a sample large and random enough to get accurate data and reliable conclusions.

b) Census - this data should be readily available, and you should be able to get scores for every single student.

This is the difference between survey and census. One samples only part of a population (survey) while the other samples every single member of a particular group (census).

Part 2:

a) Qualitative - musical instruments are not numbers.

b) Discrete - you are counting students, and you can only have a whole number of students

c) Continuous - temperatures can be anything within a particular range (in this case 0C to 100C - or 32F to 212F)
