I'm doing a survey on gay marriage. How do i come up with a random sample for it?

People on the street, usually one of the best ways since you don't know if the people you see are gay or straight.

I wouldn't suggest asking in this category simply because we're mostly gay/lesbian/bisexuals and transgenders in here.

I wouldn't suggest that you post your poll here at Yahoo at all, since you will be introducing a bias - I would tend to believe the demographic here is skewed toward the young and the educated/computer savvy.

The best way to do a random sample is to use the telephone at random and at random times. If you, for example, only called people at 3pm on a Tuesday, then you will be missing out on many working people.

I like the suggestion that someone else had of asking people on the street. That's about as random as you can get without calling people!

Good luck!
Reply:post your question in "polls and surveys"
Reply:For the internet? The Polls Survey section is probably gonna be the best.

In real life, find an area like mall or town center area where a variety of people congregate and then ask for their opinions straight out.

Phrasing is very important.

"Shouldn't gays be allowed to marry?" is biased toward the yes answer.

"Gay shouldn't be allowed to marry, right?" is biased toward the not being able to answer part.

It's best to just ask it straight out "Do you believe gay people should have the right to marry each other?" is probably your best bet.
